Band Member Bullying

✔  Share this blog entry & pic on Tumblr! In every band there is one member that gets made fun of the most. I never understood this concept, because when I really like a band I appreciate all the members even though I have a favorite. Ringo Starr was always my favorite Beatle. And to this day I still hear folks of all ages make fun of him, most prevalent comment is that Ringo was a "back up" drummer. Yes, he may not have been the original drummer (See: Pete Best), but he wasn't a "back up" drummer. John and Paul fired Pete and hired Ringo because he was better. Plain and simple. People also like to make fun of the music he wrote, or lack their of. Yes, he may not have been as a prolific song writer as George, John and Paul, but Ringo is still contributed a lot. I appreciate all of the Beatles solo music, they are all unique individuals. I own a few solo albums for each Beatle and I think they each have something different to offer. Also, Ringo, e...

The Monkees Tour 2012: Too little too late

My first Monkees concert was in August of 2001, around 11 years ago. I won a pair of concert tickets off an oldies radio station. The only thing that ever bummed me out about any of that experience was the fact that the four of them weren't together. If it had been up to me, I'd have been around in the 60's and got to see them when Jimi Hendrix opened for them, but sadly, my mother was barely alive. I really wanted to see Davy, Micky, Peter AND Mike. Ever since I was a kid I heard rumors wool hat (Mike Nesmith) was rich. His mom invented white out and he played a big role in the founding of MTV (among other things). He had no need to tour unless he decided to indulge Monkees fans with his presence. Mike left the group in 1970, allegedly leaving the group because their last tour wasn't successful. The Monkees, Davy, Micky and Peter got back together in the 80's...Mike joined only briefly (once the tour took off). The Monkees toured in the 90's without...

On Davy Jones passing

I have worried about the pending but inevitable deaths of a few of my Rockstar idols, and sadly today one of them has passed. As a teenager (13-14) I got really into the Beatles and the Monkees. I fell in love with two men, and one of them was Davy Jones. In my teens I felt the need to change my name and make my own identity (that is a whole different story)  and I took the last names of "the two guys I would take to the prom." Still not quite sure why it boiled down to that for me, but it did. Davy Jones and Ringo Starr were my guys. And if you gave me a time machine those would be the men I would try to find.   Obviously I was Monkees obsessed, and favored Davy because he was adorable and English. What can I say, I'm a sucker for English guys. Some have called me an Anglophile. I had a huge crush on Davy and fantasized about finding a younger version. But in reality I listened to their music and drew dragons. That's what I did in High School. On ...
